The CC Bexley "Dave Ashdown Memorial" Open "10" : Saturday 16th. May 2009.

The event this year was again won by Peter Tadross, Ingear Quickvit RT, with a time of 21 minutes 05 seconds, two seconds slower than his course record breaking ride last year! Well, he is a year older now.

Another repeat of last year is that Reg Smith, DCB Kent, won the VETS award, with a plus 7min. 38 seconds, slipping back 17 seconds from last year's win. Even the longer standard didn't help in this case.

The Dave Ashdown Trophy was won by Robert Sapp, Medway Velo, wih a ride nearest to Dave's best time, (25 min 30 sec) with 25 min 42 seconds.

The fastest lady was Mrs. Deborah Percival, 34th. Nomads CC with 27 min. 56 sec., and the team award with 1 hour 09 minutes 52secs was taken by Malcolm Davis, Barry Stuart and Derek Howlett.

Ian Finch, CC Bexley, won the Tricycle Association SE Region event with 27min. 06 sec. with Trevor Oliver, San Fairy Ann CC, winning the handicap with 25 min.33 sec.

Championship 25 2009 : Results

As usual this was held in association with The Wigmore CC "25", this year being held on the Chilham course, the "Q8". What we did not expect was that they would have a full field.

Ian Finch and Ray Appleby entered, but Ray was outside the event closing time. He was a reserve however and did get his ride on the day, but this may affect our choice of host event in the future.

Anyway, Ian won the Championship with a 1 hour 02 min. 33 sec ride with a +4.57 on his Vet standard. Ray did a 1 hour 15 minute 44 sec ride with a +8.33 on his Vet standard.

Championship 50 & 100

No CC Bexley riders competed in the KCA 100 on June 21st

We had one rider in the KCA 50 on June 7th. Malcolm Strickland did a 1 hour 41 min. 32 sec. ride thus ensuring that at least the 50 Championship Trophy has been won.

Bill Finch Memorial.

Two memorials to the late Bill Finch are now in place.

The first one is that the early season South East TA "25" is now known as "The Bill Finch Memorial". The event has been moved forward by about a month to the third weekend in April to try and catch some more spring like weather, a point which Bill never actioned.

The first event was held on April 19th. Bill no doubt still has some devine influence as the day was cloudy with a bitter, (but not quite so bitter as in previous years) strong easterly wind blowing.

With this first event, we hoped to attract a large field by awarding all finishers who didn't otherwise win an award with a special medal. Although the field was larger, we had hoped for a few more, and the cold conditions may have put off many from starting. None the less it was a successful event attended by many, including Christine and Caroline Finch.

Ian Finch won the event, which was a great tribute to his dad. It must be said also that he won it fairly and squarely. It was no "fix". CC Bexley riders times were as follows:-

The second tribute to Bill is a memorial seat. It was put in place at Trosley Country Park near the top of The North Downs overlooking the Kent countryside where Bill did most of his miles.

There was a short ceremony of dedication attended by his immediate family on Saturday August 22nd. 2009. Around 35 to 40 of his family and friends attended on a bright sunny afternoon and watched son Ian fix the steel plaque into position.

Ian Finch fixes the Dedication Plate into position using the B&Q ceremonial screwdriver.

Bills immediate family enjoy the view from the seat.

Charity Rides.

I am often asked to advertise charity rides on the website. I have decided therefore to list some of them on this page. Those that are local to our area, or that one of our members wish to support will be included in this list. I will put them in date order.

Other Events.

Other events local to our area will be listed here after the racing season starts and the Reliability trials are over.

Clothing

If we want some CC Bexley clothing we no longer have to order it through the Secretary. Impsport have set up a purhasing facility on their website. All you have to do is go to their website and, on the home page, go to the "View Club Category" box.

Enter the club password, which can be obtained from Anne Heasman, and you may then see the range and prices of the club clothing available. From there you may purchase on-line using your credit/debit card and set up an account if you wish.

For those Luddites that are not on line, clothes may be ordered from Anne in the usual way, although she will purchase items as required and not normally seek a bulk purchase first.

And Finally, but Most Importantly

Welcome to our new member who have joined since our AGM in December 2009:-

R. Bettany and M. Baker.

We hope that their association with us will be long and joyous.
