General.
Well, your webmaster has been very lazy in keeping our log up to date. In fact I havn't done any updating since December but I have turned over a new leaf and will now mend my ways. I have some information from the past few weeks, and I will gradually catch up, drawing from my memory at the same time.
Weekend Saturday 15th / Sunday 16th. May.
The second Catford CC "10" to be held on the Tonbridge by-pass (Q10/19) had a much better morning than the first one last Saturday. A warm sunny morning with little breeze. We only had one rider this week, Ian Finch, who came in with 22 min 30 sec.
A similar morning for our Championship "25" on the Romney Marsh produced some good rides. Eight of our members entered, the most for some years, and they all started and finished. The event was held in with the open event " Bill Philbrook Memorial "25" run by the Wigmore CC. Results of our Championship event are as follows:
| Pos | Rider | Time | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ian Finch | 1 hour 00 min 22 sec | Champion |
| 2 | Mark Palmer | 1 hour 05 min 21 sec | Not-quite-Champion. |
| 3 | Mick Morris | 1 hour 05 min 29 sec | Wot! No wheel collapse this year!. |
| 4 | Ken Gardner | 1 hour 06 min 01 sec | No primes to chase in this event. |
| 5 | Brian Debonnairer | 1 hour 08 min 25 sec | Not chasing Chris' trike this year. |
| 6 | David Morris | 1 hour 09 min 33 sec | Dare not beat dad no doubt. |
| 7 | Roy Canning | 1 hour 14 min 05 sec | Dragging a third wheel and a big gear! |
| 8 | Pete Holbrough | 1 hour 34 min 52 sec | A good sport to have a go. |
Weekend Saturday 8th / Sunday 9th. May.
Much to our surprise the Catford CC "10" was run on Saturday morning on the Tonbridge by-pass (Q10/19) despite the atrocious conditions. Three of our four riders decided to start thus confirming that Brian Bebonnaire was the only one with any sense! Of the three, Ian recorded a superb 23 min 28 sec with Mark Palmer following with 26 min 17 sec, and Dave Morris with 26 min 51 sec.
At great risk of another soaking, Ian went up to the Icknield RC "25" on the F1B/25 where he did a 58 min 20 sec. On the same morning the VTTA "30" was held on the Romney Marsh course (Q30/12) which included a tandem event incorporating the Tricycle Association SE Invicta Trophy. Two pairs entered. Although rather a gloomy morning conditions were not too bad, not cold, windy or actually raining, but with plenty of surface water about. Tom Wakefield and Roy Canning came in with a 1 hr 28 min 17 sec. with Bryan Heasman and Bill Finch recording a 1 hr 31 min 43 sec. ride. Mick Morris was down to ride in the solo event but, along with many others, he did not start. To be greeted after two weeks training in sunny Majorca with a dose of racing in the English summer obviously did not appeal to him!
Weekend Saturday 24th / Sunday 25th. April.
Riders in two events this weekend. On Saturday Roy rode over to Harrietsham on his trike for the West Kent "10". Brian Debonnaire, who was riding his first event of the year, managed a 26 min 25 sec, and Roy did 29 min 33 sec on his trike. On Sunday Roy timed in the Sydenham Wheelers "25", once again at Harrietsham, where Ian Finch rode on his bike, clocking 1 hr 1 min ?? sec.
Sunday 4th. April.
More early season rides from Mick Morris and his son Dave. they rode the VTTA 10 on the Q10/28( Nettlestead) recording 28 min 37 sec and 29 min 29 sec respectively. the event was won by R. Fouton with 23 min 50 sec.
Saturday 27th March.
Mick Morris rode an early Season Event, the Southborough & District Wheelers "10" on the Q10/22, (Harrietsham) recording a 27min : 36 sec ride. the event was won by P. Tadros with a 21 min 44 sec ride
Thursday 1st January
The traditional "hair of the dog" meeting at "The Bell" at Kemsing went ahead as usual. the day commenced with a club run starting frm "The Bell" at 10:00 am, actually a TA organised run. Bill and Ian Finch and Roy Canning turned out on what started as a dry morning. the rain did start however, but things were not as bad a the previous new year. Roy almost used up his annual quota of punctures sustaining 3 during the 25 mile run. The remainder of the day was devoted to praying that he would not get another, especially when riding home after a few pints while it was getting dark, as he had no more spares.
There was a grand gathering in "The Bell" at the end of the run of about 40 people from various clubs. The landlord allowed us to use the back room for our gathering thus allowing the regulars their rightful room in the main bar. Some interest was shown in us by a senior OAP in the bar who turned out to be an old clubman from before the war who rode many times in his day at Hearn Hill He came and joined us for an interesting chat.
