Wednesday 27th June

No "10" tonight but a feast at our clubroom instead. The night of our annual bar-be-cue.

The weather was not kind to us at all. It was pouring down most of the evening and the rain was not even warm. Mick and Andrew bravely cooked for us with brolleys in one hand. About half the number that we normally have turned up and so there was plenty of food for all. Members and visitors had a good time including our frame enameller, Dave Crowe, and Dave Bridges who turned up for our ten and got a feed instead.

Many thanks to Debbie and Richard Boxall for organising it, Mick Morris and Andrew Elford for cooking and any I havn't mentioned for helping.

Wednesday 4th. July

Bit of a disaster this evening. Road works appeared at the beginning of the week at the Portabello Inn. On Tuesday one carriageway was closed but instead of lights men with "Stop - Go" boards were being used. This suggested that when they pack up for the day both carriageways may open. Added to this heavy rain was likely and with the blustery wind it was likely not many would turn out.

The roadworkers did leave all carriageways open although with some of the surface burnt off. The rain did keep off also, so the event was held with 8 riders. At least another bad surface should be smooth next week!

We noted that some Tour de France teams were staying at the Brands Hatch Hotel. Unfortunately we did not pick up any extra entries.

Wednesday 11th. July

It seems that the roadwaorks are now finished and the bad surface around the "Portabello Inn" is now billiard table standard. It seems that the bad part is new the three quarters of a mile trench infill in the cycle lane on the way back - especially if you are riding a trike!

I was not there but it was good to see that Roger Woods came out this evening. I hope you all cheered him on.

Wednesday 25th. July

Not a very pleasant evening. The forcast was that rain would not arrive until after midnight, but there was a heavy drizzle all through Kingsdown which, together with the blustery wind, made for bad conditions. Two riders decided to back off after entering but donated their entry to club funds. Many thanks to the two DNS.

Wednesday 1st August

Much better and warmer this week which no doubt brought you all out. Even I decided to have a go! It was a bit cloudy which probably was an advantage as it masked a glaring low sun on the way back

Bit of a problem just before the left turn to Eysford. It appeared that a motor-cyclist came off and there was a road obstruction, especially as an ambulance arrived. This must have delayed some riders, but the main concern is the hope that no-one was badly hurt in the accident.

Commiserations to Phil Bull, trying so hard that he broke his chain. He probably would have won if his chain was stronger.

Wednesday 15th. August

Not a very pleasant last night, not like mid-August, but at least the rain held off. Only 13 riders for our last event.

Don't forget that next week is Hill Climb Championship where all riders a welcome. The event will be followed by the Frewheel Championship. There is no entry fee. We meet at the bottom of Stanstead Hill ready for the start at 7:00 pm.

The hillclimb and the freewheel contest this week. Rather a dull evening after a wet day and we did not have many riders, but both events were run.
