Wednesday 28th. June.

No racing this week, it was the night of our Bar-be-cue. There are some keen types that turn up at the start though, and realising that we are not holding an event decide to have one of their own!

Andrew Beswetherick and Stuart Hicks of the Catford CC and Gary Dunn and Ian Edmeads of the VC Elan forgo a good feed down at our clubroom and held their own unofficial 10. This was not intentional, they just did not realise that we would all be filling our faces instead of racing this week. There was one advertised in the handbook so perhaps their event was not that unofficial. Careful timing was done on their Micky Mouse watches certified to be accurate to the nearest hour. This resulted in Stuart Hicks recording 23 : 17, Garry Dunn, 23 : 45, Andrew Beswetherick, 24 : 05 and Ian Edmeads 24 : 18.

While all this drama was being enacted, approximately 60 of us tasted the gastonomic pleasures of Mick Morris and Andy Elfords cousine under the setting sun washed down with a few beers. For some reason this seemed more popular than the unofficial "10".

Wednesday 5th. July.

Back to the racing after last week's gastronomic break saw a smaller than usual (at least as far as this year is concerned) field. Other racing events are probably competing with ours now.

It was one of those evenings when it seemed hard in both directions, although it was warm and dry. Some good rides again.

The field was a bit bigger tonight, perhaps because we were still basking in the warm sunshine of summer. It still seemed bit hard to the turn in spite of a seemingly wind free night.

Wednesday 19th. July.

After the hottest July day for 100 years according to the Met. Office it was a very heavy evening with no wind. All those that I spoke to agreed that it was exceptionally hard on the way out for some reason but better on the way back.

A slight fall in the numbers from last week. Thought it might be a good night to work up a thirst!

Wednesday 26th. July.

Another hot day which turned windy as the heat of the day subsided. There was a threat of rain in the forecast but threatening clouds is all we had. It was hard work again out to the turn and I saw many struggling.

Some good rides though, except for me. I thought he would try a bike for a change in the vain hope I would do a decent time. Long time since I raced one and it is not set up for modern time trialling. That's enough of the excuses though, I'm sticking to the trike in future!

Remember that next week, due to a function being held at the Anthony Roper School at the finish, we will be using the modified Q10/25 which turns second left into Beesfield Lane just after the left turn onto the A225 towards Eynsford. The finish is about three quarters of a mile along the lane at the junction with Donkey Lane. Please do not park your cars at the school.

Wednesday 2nd. August.

Fewer riders perhaps because it was a cooler day with a blustery wind. This helped the riders out to the turn. It was harder back though and one or two had to work to keep their balance riding down the hill. The change of finish was a relief with the wind helping you as long as you managed the tight turns!

That's all the events over. We will give coffee mugs to all those who have done 6 rides or more, seeing that 2 events were rained off. Next week is our club hillclimb followed by the freewheel contest. Non CC Bexley members are welcome to join in and there is no entry fee. Wednesday 23rd. August.

The Hill Climb was nearly rained off this week but luckily the rain kept off while the event was run. We had to abandon the freewheel contest though as we thought the hill a bit slippery in the wet. Seem to remember we had the same situation last week.

Some good rides, especially from A. Buckwell who won the CC Bexley club event at only 14 years old. A budding star??
