Wednesday Evening 10 Mile Time Trials 2006.

Results

Wednesday 26th. April.

As with last year we had a larger than expected field for our first event. Although it was dry, it was rather overcast with a chill wind, but times were fast. We could have allowed 40 riders, but the light would have been a bit doubtful for the last riders. We closed at 38 riders, but we understand one or two more turned up after the timekeeper had left and did not get a ride. We must apologise to those riders and hope you were not too upset. The fading light is rather a worry. We hope it has not put you off coming back for future rides.

Apologies for the late posting of the results, I have only just received them myself. Interesting to see that Gary Birch won our first event with 21 min 27 sec - exactly the same as in the first event last year. How's that for consistancy!

Wednesday 5th. May.

Another large field, probably because of the fine weather today. It did cloud over slightly but it stayed warm and dry.

Anne was away this week. As a result I did not get all the details on the riders, although the times should be correct. I will bring things up to date as I receive information but, as with every week, if you can mail me with any updates or amendments I will revise accordingly.

A special congratulations to Andrew Rudkin, two weeks after showing interest in our club and club cycling, recording a respectable 30 min. 34 sec. in his first ride. He now has something to chase. Our congratulations also to fourteen year old Joshua Goodchild with a respectable 31 min 46 sec. for a first ride. Also with a first ride at only 12 years old is Ford Curran with 30 min 47 sec. This included time taken to get round the road accident at Kingsdown that affected the later riders. Our thoughts are with the motor cyclists and others involved. Congratulations to all first time riders who finish, especially the young ones, (that is, those of school age - not those pensioners who class themselves as young) and we apologise if we don't mention you by name only because we do not realise.

A warm evening with a bit of a head wind back from the turn. This does not seem to affect some people though as there were some excellent rides with some personal bests.

A maximum field of 40 riders. We must thank everybody for their support. We must be doing something right!!

Wednesday 17th. May.

Not a very pleasant weather forecast for the evening put eveyone into am "I'm not riding" mood. It was not as bad as predicted, but was still wet and not very pleasant. No-one had turned up by starting time, so threatening skies and bad light persuaded us to cancel the event tonight.

Apologies if you turned up later expecting a ride, we hope we did you a favour.

Wednesday 24th. May.

Another terrible day, windy and cold with heavy showers made the likelyhood of an event slim. Although a few turned up we decided to cancel the event. Just as well because before the event would have finished more prolonged rain set in which lasted well into the night.

After two bad evenings in successsion let's hope that things improve next week.

Wednesday 31st. May.

Good weather again at last, or at least decent enough to run the event. There was a bit of a cold cross-wind tonight, but at least it kept dry.

Fewer riders tonight, but still a large number by usual standards.

Warm weather again and a pleasant evening which produced a good turnout and the fastest ride this year from Chris Parlett.

Apologies for being so late in updating the site. I have been away for a few days and there are many things to catch up on. Two weeks results in one update. I hope not to get so far behind again.

I did come out on the night but I do not remember the conditions. It was dry as I remember though after some rain earlier in the day. Although still a good field I think it was a bit down due to the Velo Club Elan event the following day.

Wednesday 21st. June.

Rather a windy evening and a bit cloudy, but still warm. It appeared to be a bit of a crosswind as it made itself felt in both directions. Anyway, it did not seem to hold some of you back.

Don't forget that there is no event next week. Instead we have our evening bar-be-cue at the clubroom at Horton Kirby. Why not come along and meet us at this social occasion. The location can be found via the homepage.
